The Catechism of Hockey–“Check” It Out!

It is a pleasure for the Bellarmine Forum to take part in this “blog tour” of an important new book just recently published!  Readers of the Bellarmine Forum may know Alyssa Bormes as a woman whose life was changed through her reading of Humanae Vitae.  Indeed, as she says, “Humanae Vitae changed my life!”  She has been active in promoting the Bellarmine Forum’s Campaign for Humanae Vitae, and our Chairman, Professor Charles E. Rice, has asked her to write the introduction to his book Contraception and Persecution (St. Augustine’s Press, forthcoming in January 2014).   Now we return the favor in promoting her new book.  It has received endorsements from, among others, Archbishop John Nienstedt of St. Paul-Minneapolis and Bishop Thomas J. Paprocki of Springfield.  “Check” it out!

The Catechism of Hockey is a unique take on teaching the Catholic Faith. Bormes uses the metaphor of hockey and sports devotion to explain the responsibility of Catholic parents to raise their children in the teachings and observances of the Church. If you have ever needed help explaining the faith to your children, your friends and family, or even your foes, this is your new playbook. The Catechism of Hockey is one of the most unlikely, but effective Catholic resources for the New Evangelization.

“Life is hockey? Maybe. The path to greatness is the same for both the NHL and your soul and this book will lead you there.” Brian Bonin, 1996 Hobey Baker Award Winner
