Next Issue Has The Way
Christ said, not “a way.” “Come follow Me,” Christ said, not “Go follow your own conscience.”
Morriss writes, “If the Church teaches what is true and the world teaches in contradiction to it, an acceptance of the world’s teaching is an enslavement to error.”
In Heralds of Christ in the Marketplace, Morriss calls on the laity to take a stand for Christ.
Twerking and “Butt Dancing”
I had occasion to think of those words one evening this week. My daughter attended a fast-paced Zumba dance class. I have not made up my mind if this is exercise or penance for most people.
On the way to the car after class, I asked how it was, with a new instructor this time and all.
“I don’t like sexy dancing. It was butt dancing.” She demonstrated some pelvic action.
“He was doing that?”
“Yes.”
“Did you do that?”
It’s that simple:
“I don’t like that. I’m sorry Mom, but I don’t want to go back. I like salsa, I like to dance, but not that way.”
“No.” I could just visualize her staring him down as he performed for the 20 women in class. “I don’t like that. I’m sorry Mom, but I don’t want to go back. I like salsa, I like to dance, but not that way.”
It’s not the first time she’s spoken out on things like this; it won’t be the last I’m sure. Herald in the marketplace? Sign of contradiction? She’s 24 and has Down Syndrome and she wants to avoid an occasion of sin.
Maybe her lack of intellectual prowess in the eyes of the world has made her see things more clearly than those with twice, even three times her IQ. And maybe it has also made her unafraid to speak up.
Take a lesson.
