The Campaign for Humanae Vitae™

The Bellarmine Forum Campaign For Humanae Vitae™
Prayerful Petition of the Faithful to the Holy Father and to Our Beloved Bishops

When a Cardinal Tells You to Hold His Feet to the Fire...

Cardinal Dolan speaking and pointing right.Cardinal Dolan tells the Wall Street Journal that Humanae Vitae was the "flash Point" of diffidence in the post-Vatican II Church, that "brought such a tsunami of dissent, departure, disapproval of the church, that I think most of us—and I'm using the first-person plural intentionally, including myself—kind of subconsciously said, 'Whoa. We'd better never talk about that, because it's just too hot to handle.' We forfeited the chance to be a coherent moral voice when it comes to one of the more burning issues of the day."
Founded in 1965 as a fearless bastion of the faith, especially on Humanae Vitae,

WE COULDN'T AGREE MORE!

Cardinal Dolan encouraged the faithful to tell the Bishops: "you as our pastors need to tell us, and you need to challenge us.'"

That's what this petition is all about!

Clara, commenting on the article, explains why this campaign is needed so well:

I am a broken hearted mother of six who has seen my own children, to whom I taught the true Faith straight from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, decide that “Mama must think she’s more Catholic than the Pope”, when their CCD classes, taught by disobedient catechists, watered down that Truth to make it fit the disobedience they lived. My children have paid for the “Truce” by believing the lies taught them in their CCD classes, and I pay in tears. I don’t understand why, now that we have seen the result of this “Truce”, “philosophers” and “theologians” like Gary Gutting are not removed from their positions at Catholic Universities, nor why the Universal Church does not eliminate the title Catholic from the University and eliminate all funding, as well.

Pope Benedict on What Truly Ails Us in the Church...

We Love Pope Benedict!

If we think of the two millenniums of the Church’s history, we may note as the Lord Jesus had foretold (cf. Mt 10:16-33) that trials for Christians have never been lacking and in certain periods and places have assumed the character of true and proper persecution. Yet, despite the suffering they cause, they do not constitute the gravest danger for the Church. Indeed she is subjected to the greatest danger by what pollutes the faith and Christian life of her members and communities, corroding the integrity of the Mystical Body, weakening her capacity for prophecy and witness, and marring the beauty of her face.

Prayerful Petition of the Faithful to the Holy Father and to Our Beloved Bishops

Your Holiness, Your Excellencies:

We the undersigned Catholic faithful express to you our gratitude for your exercise of your teaching office. We pledge to support in every possible way your efforts to teach the Faith, in all its Truth, “in season and out of season.” [2 Tim. 4:2]

As you respond to Christ’s call to “Go, and teach all nations,” the Church’s religious freedom is under attack. So is the Deposit of Faith itself, especially Humanae Vitae, the Church’s vital teaching on the sanctity of Christian marriage. Our culture is collapsing because the fundamental truths of Humanae Vitae have been forgotten or ignored.

Your Holiness, we humbly express our gratitude to Holy Mother Church for the teaching of Humanae Vitae. Thank you for your repeated requests that it be taught vigorously, and in its entirety.

Your Excellencies, we pray that you will speak out boldly and with confidence in defense of the moral truths of Humanae Vitae – all of them. Please ask your priests to preach Humanae Vitae ”with confidence” and “without ambiguity” (HV, 28), fortified by prayer and with the assurance that it constitutes “a promulgation of the law of God Himself.” (HV, 20)

We thank God, and we promise to pray, for your continued teaching and “safeguarding” of “the holiness of marriage” (HV, 30) and for your valiant defense of the Faith.

“To defend the truth, to articulate it with humility and conviction, and to bear witness to it in life are therefore exacting and indispensable forms of charity. Charity, in fact, “rejoices in the truth” (1 Cor 13:6).”

--Pope Benedict XVI, Encyclical Letter Caritas in Veritate, I

The Church . . . clasping sinners to her bosom, at once holy and always in need of purification, follows constantly the path of penance and renewal. . . . The Church, “like a stranger in a foreign land, presses forward amid the persecutions of the world and the consolations of God,” announcing the cross and death of the Lord until he comes. But by the power of the Risen Lord she is given strength to overcome, in patience and in love, her sorrows and her difficulties, both those that are Ofrom within and those that are from without, so that she may reveal in the world, faithfully, however darkly, the mystery of her Lord until, in the consummation, it shall be manifested in full light.

Documents of Vatican II, Lumen Gentium, 8

“There is also the fact that attacks on the Pope and the Church come not only from without, but the sufferings of the Church come precisely from within the Church, from the sin existing within the Church. This too is something that we have always known, but today we are seeing it in a really terrifying way: that the greatest persecution of the Church comes not from her enemies without, but arises from sin within the Church, and that the Church thus has a deep need to relearn penance, to accept purification, to learn forgiveness on the one hand, but also the need for justice. Forgiveness does not replace justice. In a word, we need to relearn precisely this essential: conversion, prayer, penance and the theological virtues. This is our response, we are realists in expecting that evil always attacks, attacks from within and without, yet that the forces of good are also ever present and that, in the end, the Lord is more powerful than evil and Our Lady is for us the visible, motherly guarantee of God’s goodness, which is always the last word in history."
