Gaudete! Rejoice!

The third of four Sundays in Advent has overtaken us. As Bon Jovi sang, “We’re half way there.”  There? Where?

Whether we acknowledge it or not, we are on our Advent journey, our time of preparation to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Not that our secular society would acknowledge the spiritual in this time of spending money, but in reality, Jesus is the reason for the season and Advent gives us time to assess our progress in preparing for Christ. And, if needed, Advent gives us time to begin anew in the days ahead.

Bon Jovi sang about living on a prayer. Is that as much a part of our Christmas prep as flipping through pages of Amazon deals? There are ten days left, there’s still time to fix that. There’s still time to hit the pause button on scrolling the phone, Amazon searches, and Fox News tidbits and devote some time in contemplating the God who made us.

Decorative church Advent arrangement featuring four white angel statues with wings, adorned with purple and pink satin ribbons, positioned around four candle holders atop ornate pillars containing three purple candles and one pink (rose) candle, all set on a circular green evergreen wreath base with purple floral accents.

In Sunday’s homily, our pastor spoke about prayer but highlighted the need for not only traditional prayer but also the need for silence, meditation, letting the whisper of God to enter in, making straight our spiritual byways.

We’re halfway there, are we living on a prayer? It’s time to claw back our lives from cyberspace and enter into our spiritual space. Find the peace you’ve been missing. It’s not on your phone or online, but within. Let go and let God and you, too, will be able to call out, Gaudete in Domino! Rejoice in the Lord!
